I use the picture of a disassembled clock above to make a point.  I have an antique mantel clock that has been my family for close to a century.  It stopped working years ago and became an inert decoration for the next 40 years.  About 12 years ago I tried to fix it myself.  I took it apart, I cleaned it, I oiled it and I actually managed to get it back together again and it ran for about a month and then it stopped.  I tinkered with it again and it ran for about a year, then it stopped.

I finally looked up a local clock smith who specialized in antiques and he gave it a proper cleaning, repaired a worn bearing and it has worked ever since.  I am pretty handy in a lot of things, but I have neither the skills nor the tools of a clock smith.  Sometimes you need the services of a professional to get something done right.
